Help us save the village shop and Post Office

You may have heard rumours that the village shop and Post Office in Goodworth Clatford could go into voluntary liquidation with immediate effect, unless we the villagers, are prepared to take some action.

With this in mind, a small group of the Clatford Shop Association Shareholders aim to approach the local community to seek support in raising funds to keep the shop open.

According to the 2024 Accounts, the village shop needs to increase its profitability by just £9,000 per annum to break even. It does not seem a huge amount when the cost to us all of not raising it means the closure of a long standing community store which provides such a useful range of services. It could mean as little as £1.00 per week if enough people get involved!

Two potential schemes are being worked on and more details will be forthcoming following the shop AGM to be held on 24th June at 7.30pm in Goodworth Clatford Village Club. All villagers are welcome to the meeting, but only Shareholders can vote on either accepting the proposal to close or to vote to explore the alternative funding initiatives with a view to keeping it open. The cost of a share in the shop is £10 and forms can be obtained from the village shop and Post Office.

The 24th June is a critical day for our village, the loss of the Shop and Post Office means not only a loss of convenience when you run out of last minute basics, but also the loss of newspaper supplies and deliveries, local laundry and dry cleaning services, prescription collections, banking activity and other postal services to say nothing about the impact on the value of your homes.
