Upper Clatford Parish Council own and operate a speed monitor which is regularly moved between a number of locations in the parish. The sign acts as reminder of speed and a prompt to slow down if exceeding the limit as well as recording the speed of all vehicles that pass the monitor. This information is in turn monitored by the council and used in support of council work for example where there may be concerns about new housing this sort of information is really useful to show the volume of traffic already using a road.

The latest figures for 10th June to 3rd July show the volume of traffic that travelled along Foundry Road in this period both coming and going from the A343. Notably the volume of traffic entering the village during that period was over 11,000 vehicles the vast majority of which stayed within the speed limit showing an average speed of 25 MPH. However 13% of users coming from the A343 were speeding with one vehicle recording 60 MPH at 10.30 am on the 13th June, overall a total of 18 vehicles were recorded as travelling at speeds of 46 to 65 MPH.

Looking at Balksbury Hill during the periods of 21 July to 27 July and 12th Aug to 26th Aug the average speed both coming and going from the Parish was slightly higher and with only 58% of drivers entering the village staying within the speed limit and just under half of drivers entering the village exceeding the speed limit. Around 157 vehicles in this period were recorded as travelling between 46 and 65 MPH, with the highest speed registered being 62 MPH at 16.15 on the 21st July.

With grateful thanks to our fantastic volunteer who both manages the monitor and produces the stats.
